Queensland's 2012 Australia Day Ambassadors spread the spirit of Australia Day

Premier Anna Bligh today announced that 34 Australia Day Ambassadors will help bring Queensland communities together to celebrate our national day.

"Through the Australia Day Ambassador Program, regional and metropolitan communities throughout Queensland will have the unique opportunity to share their stories with some of Queensland's best and brightest at their local Australia Day celebrations," Ms Bligh said.

"The program enables us to send high achieving and inspirational Queenslanders from diverse fields and backgrounds to local councils for Australia Day."

"Chosen for the positive and worthwhile contributions they have made to our nation in areas such as sport, business, philanthropy, science and the arts, these 34 Australia Day Ambassadors will enrich celebrations across the state."

The 2012 Queensland Australia Day Ambassadors contributing to Australia Day celebrations are:

Ms Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Ms Alison Alexander, Professor Joe Baker AO OBE, Sergeant Jim Bellos, Mr Bill Bristow AM,Mr Colin Campbell OAM, Mr David Conry, Mr John Coutis, Ms Dimity Dornan AM, Professor Michael Good AO, Mr Gerrard Gosens, Uncle Albert Holt, Dr Toni Johnson-Woods, Ms Marayke Jonkers, Mr John Lazarou, Ms Jean Madden, Mr Ross McKinnon AM, Ms Deborah Morandin, Mr Ben O'Donoghue, Mr Lars Olsen, Mr Tim Page, Ms Ellie Paxton-Hall, Dr Barbara Piscitelli AM, Mr David Pugh, Mr Angelo Puglisi, Mr Alen-Igor Radonjic, Mr Anthony Ryan, Mr Chris Scott OAM, Mr Michael Searle, Ms Bronwyn Sheehan, Emeritus Professor Roly Sussex, Major Glenn Todhunter, Professor David Tudehope AM and Ms Jenny Woodward.

"I thank our Ambassadors and those Queensland local councils who have chosen to adopt an Ambassador in 2012. I am surethese communities will enjoy celebrating Australia Day with these great Queenslanders" Ms Bligh said.

The Australia Day Ambassador Program is an initiative of the National Australia Day Council in partnership with Woolworths and supported by the Queensland Government.

The Queensland Government has proudly supported and coordinated the state's program since 2005.
