Santa set to sing at two magical carols events

Santa set to sing at two magical carols events

Coast families are set for a not-so-silent night when they attend one of two free carols events headlined by one of Australia's favourite artists, Grace Knight, later this month.

Sunshine Coast Council is holding Carols at Cotton Tree in Maroochydore on Saturday 20 December and Carols on Kings in Caloundra the following evening.

Commencing at 6.30pm and boasting loads of entertainment with fun for all ages, Carols is proudly presented in partnership with Stockland and hosted by SEA FM's Morning Crew.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot encourages residents to come along and join in the festivities.

"The Christmas spirit really comes alive at these events and seeing the kids faces light up when Santa arrives is fabulous," Cr Abbot said.

"This is a special night for all the family to enjoy and the program hosts an impressive line up of local talent."

Be sure to bring a blanket and your picnic basket because from 5.30pm children can be entertained by roving performers including Christmas Candy Cane Hula Hoop Girls and Dominoe the Christmas Elf.

Especially for the kiddies, Lightwire Theatre is performing "Where is Santa? -- An Australian Christmas Pantomime". This panto has a delightful Australian slant and has plenty of audience participation opportunities.

That's not all on the entertainment program though; there will be performances throughout the night by local acts:

* New World Rhythm (directed by Brian Martin)
* Golden Bach Dance School
* Sarah Sullivan
* Wes Taylor & The Q's

and community carol singing lead by:

* Singing Santa
* Caloundra Chorale
* Golden Beach State School
* Buderim Male Choir

And to top the night off at approximately 8.20pm the Energex Fireworks Show will end the evening with a bang!

Food, drinks and glow products will be available from local community organisations. Carols is an alcohol and glass free event.

There is a free bus service for Carols on Kings with services running from and to Caloundra Bus Interchange in Cooma Terrace from 3pm -- 9.30pm (on 21 December only).

Pet owners in the vicinity of both Carols events are advised that the noise of fireworks can cause pets to become agitated. Council reminds owners to ensure pets are safe and secure for the duration of the event.

Carols at Cotton Tree and Carols on Kings are proudly supported by Sunshine Coast Council, Stockland, Energex, Sunshine Coast Daily, Southern Cross Ten, Sea FM, East Coast Traffic Services, Gillett Electrical Contractors, Colourscan Creative Print and Diverse Design.
