SDDCA says to TMR
The Sippy Downs & District Community Association (SDDCA) has
submitted their response to the Transport & Main Roads (TMR)
Draft Plan for the Bruce Highway upgrade, and they are not happy.
They strongly disagree with closing five existing on/off ramps at
Sippy Downs and Palmview, suggesting that it will have have
serious consequences for residents, visitors, business owners and
their customers in Sippy Downs, Tanawha, Buderim & Palmview.
There is also safety concerns for emergency vehicles getting into
and out of the area. President of the SDDCA Mike Doroshenko says
"the response times of Emergency vehicles coming into and out of
Buderim, Palmview, Sippy Downs & Tanawha would be extended.
This places lives and property at serious risk in case of fire,
flood, traffic accidents or mass evacuation, as every minute
counts in an emergency situation."
There has been considerable community anger over the plan to
close the two on/off ramp access to the Sunshine Motorway near
the Chancellor Park Marketplace, as well as closing the other 3
on/off ramps at Palmview, near Aussie World. The SDDCA believes
the closure of these five on/off ramps, amongst other reasons,
will be detrimental to business and force closure. "The entire
community is united and wish to keep these existing on/off ramps
open" said Mr Doroshenko.
The TMR state their reasons for removing the entry and exit ramps
as "must be removed to comply with the national safety standards
for spacing between this interchange and the Bruce
Highway/Sunshine Motorway interchange." The SDDCA has
demonstrated in their submission that there are alternatives to
the TMR Draft Plan.
"Upgrades mean an improvement to services, not removing
infrastructure that has served the community well for many years,
and will continue to do so for many years into the future" said
Mike.
The Sippy Downs and District Community Association, raise these
concerns not only for Sippy Downs residents, but for the future
17,000 residents of Palmview. They do not believe it is
acceptable for an existing community’s safety, amenity and
identity to be put at risk by plans to remove access for
residents, visitors, business owners and their customers.
The SDDCA encourages everyone to make a submission to the GHD
consultants who are preparing community feedback. Public
consultation closes mid-February 2012 . Your response can be
emailed direct to brucehwycr-sm@ghd.com .
The SDDCA objects to the following items in the TMR draft
plan:
1. The closure of the existing westbound ramp
from Sippy Downs Drive onto the Sunshine Motorway, heading
towards Brisbane and the Bruce Highway
2. The redesign of the eastbound on ramp from
Sippy Downs Drive onto the Sunshine Motorway, heading towards
Mooloolaba
3. The closure of the existing eastbound off
ramp from Sunshine Motorway onto Sippy Downs Drive and Tanawha
Road
4. The resumption of 22 homes to construct part
of the Western Service Road linking Crosby Hill Drive
5. No direct Northerly access from the Western
Service Road onto the Bruce Highway
6. No direct Southerly access from the Bruce
Highway onto the Western Service Road
7. The closure of the existing southbound off
ramp from the Bruce Highway onto Pignata Road, Palmview
8. The closure of the existing southbound on
ramp from Pignata Road onto the Bruce Highway, Palmview
9. The closure of the existing northbound off
ramp from the Bruce Highway onto Frizzo Road, Palmview
The document and a detailed objection to each of the above items,
as well as other links to the TMR can be found on their website
at www.sippydowns.qld.au.
