Serious Questions Campbell Newman must answer today
Campbell Newman has an appalling record when it comes to
integrity and failing to declare his web of business and
financial interests.
Reports today show that there is yet another business transaction
that raises more questions about Campbell Newman's
transparency.
The sale of this land is shrouded in secrecy - the only people
who knew this prime slice of inner-Brisbane real estate was up
for grabs are the people involved in the deal.
The questions that must be answered today include:
-Does Campbell Newman seriously expect Queenslanders to believe
his family's company innocently entered into negotiations for
this multi-million dollar property deal 48 hours after this
lucrative rezoning was approved by the Liberal Councillors at BCC
at the last Council meeting before he resigned?
-Does he seriously expect Queenslanders to believe his family's
companies had no previous discussions with the owner - a close
business associate who remains a major shareholder and board
member of one of their other family companies?
There were many objections to the rezoning from local residents
concerned about the impact of building 91 units on the site. But
at no time did Campbell Newman ever reveal his family's interest
in pursuing this property deal.
Mr Newman's attempts to dodge the requirements of honesty and
transparency here raise serious questions. Every time an issue is
raised about his own transparency, Campbell Newman dodges and
weaves. If he can't be transparent with Queenslanders about his
financial interests, how can he be trusted to lead
Queensland?
Mr Newman stands to personally profit from decisions made by the
Brisbane City Council while he was Lord Mayor. On any test this
makes him unfit to hold the office of Premier.
Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State
Development and Trade
The Honourable Andrew Fraser
