Shout Out Young Queenslanders
The Bligh Government has unveiled a new strategy to engage young
Queenslanders daily on a broad range of Government matters, not
just 'youth' issues. Community Services Minister Karen Struthers
joined Mansfield MP Phil Reeves to launch the Queensland Youth
Statement - Shout Out Gen YZ - changing the way Government
connects with young people.
"The ideas, views and opinions of young people are invaluable
across all of government business," Ms Struthers said. "This
statement gives young Queenslanders greater power not only to
shape their path but the direction of our State."
At the launch, Ms Struthers pressed the go button on the
Queensland Youth Hub Facebook page and Twitter account, allowing
young people to link with Government on a daily basis. "When
developing the statement, young Queenslanders told us they wanted
information quickly and wanted the opportunity to ask questions
more often," she said.
"We answered their call and we're determined to better respond to
their needs." Mr Reeves welcomed the launch at the Mount Gravatt
TAFE, praising the contribution young people make to our
community. "Young Queenslanders give so much to our great State -
they come from diverse backgrounds, are involved in their
communities, and care about the world around them," Mr Reeves
said.
"They are concerned about the environment, education and
training, being healthy, community involvement and the need for
society to be fair and embrace diversity. "We have heard them
loud and clear and now we're setting the way forward for young
Queenslanders to become more involved in shaping Queensland's
bright future.
"So come on young people - shout out and make your voice heard!"
This statement is part of the Bligh Government's A fair
Queensland strategy, building a State where we can all reach our
full potential regardless of who we are, where we live and the
hurdles we face.
