Six Queensland Police Service officers receive Australia Day honours
Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson and Police Minister Neil Roberts
have congratulated six deserving Queensland Police Service
officers from across the organisation who have received the
Australian Police Medal in recognition for their distinguished
service.
The Australian Police Medal recipients are Chief Superintendant
Ray Pringle (Northern Region), Superintendant Daniel Mahon (Crime
and Misconduct Commission), Inspector John Fox (Cultural Advisory
Unit), Senior Sergeant Peter Flexman (Police Pipes and Drums),
Senior Sergeant Kevin Gleeson (Far Northern Region) and Detective
Senior Sergeant Karyn Murphy (State Crime Operations
Command).
Chief Superintendant Pringle joined the QPS in January 1973 and
has served with distinction in a range of police appointments
state-wide throughout his career. He is recognised for his
leadership and excellence in organisational improvement, change
management, and operational planning. Chief Superintendent
Pringle's previous ro le was as the District Officer at Mount
Isa. He is currently based in Townsvillle.
Detective Superintendant Mahon has 35 years of policing
experience and has been recognised for his dedication and
commitment to the various roles he has undertaken during his
service. These roles have included a wide range of detective
duties in specialist areas in addition to his recent role as the
Manager of the Recruit Training Program for the QPS. His
professionalism, expertise, leadership and judgement in his
current role of Detective Superintendent, Crime and Misconduct
Commission has earned wide respect.
Inspector Fox, Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Cultural Advisory
Unit (CAU) is acknowledged for his service to the community
through his dedication to developing and maintaining effective
relationships between members of the Queensland Police Service
and Indigenous and Multicultural communities across the State. He
is also recognised for his commitment to the safety of th e
community of Queensland whilst performing duties as a traffic
police officer for large portion of his career. Inspector Fox has
in excess of 38 years of service.
Senior Sergeant Flexman commenced his policing service in 1977.
He is recognised for his dedication to community support
throughout Queensland as a long term member of the Queensland
Police Service Pipes and Drums and for his success and
effectiveness in working in partnership with community groups
across Queensland. He was promoted to the position of Officer in
Charge of the QPS Pipes and Drums in 2005 and has led the band at
prestigious events including the 2006 Edinburgh Military
Tattoo.
Senior Sergeant Gleeson is currently the Officer in Charge of
Cairns Police Station. He is recognised for his dedication to
serving the community of Queensland, particularly in the far
north of the State. He currently supervises 160 staff in the
Cairns Police Division and has worked in a variety of positions
inc luding positions including Brisbane Stations, Cairns,
Mareeba, Cooktown, Thursday Island, Cape York Communities and the
Far Northern Tactical Crime Squad. He has also performed duties
with the Brisbane, Cairns and Thursday Island Water Police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Murphy, Operations Leader Organised
Crime Group with the State Crime Operations Command (SCOC) has
had a career focused in the investigative field, most notably in
2006 as the first female appointed a the Officer in Charge of the
Armed Hold Up Unit. In 2011 she was appointed as Acting Detective
Inspector to the Operation Resolve Task Force responsible for
investigating Gold Coast armed robberies. She has performed with
distinction and demonstrated outstanding dedication and
commitment to duty particularly to the area of protracted
investigations within the Queensland Police Service.
All six officers are considered to be worthy recipients of the
award of the Australian Police Medal.
