Special "catchoo" cats looking for homes!
RSPCA Qld's Gympie Shelter is desperately seeking to re-home 25 cats that have cat flu. They are up for adoption at the vastly reduced price of $80.
"These cats have been treated and for all intents and purposes are now perfectly healthy. The only problem is that will always be carriers and therefore should not be allowed to make contact with other cats," said Shelter Manager Rebecca Brazier. "It's best if they become "inside" cats and as such they can lead normal and enjoyable lives."
'Cat Flu' is a common disease in unvaccinated cats of all ages, but tends to be particularly severe in young and especially, purebred cats. A number of infectious agents have been found to cause 'Cat Flu' but the vast majority of cases will be caused by one of two viruses, feline herpes virus type 1 (FHV-1) and feline calicivirus (FCV). FHV-1. Signs of 'Cat Flu' are similar to colds and flu in people.
Cat flu cannot be spread to humans and "carriers" can live to a normal age.
