Special grants can be used for fodder drops

Primary Industries Minister Tim Mulherin today advised primary producers worried about stranded livestock that special flood assistance grants can be used for fodder drops.

Mr Mulherin said: "Special flood assistance grants for primary producers and small business were announced yesterday by the Premier and Prime Minister.

"Up to $25,000 is available and the grants provide flexibility for those affected by the floods . the first $5,000 does not require prior expenditure.

"For primary producers, grants will help meet the costs associated with clean up, maintaining the health of livestock, salvaging crops grain and feed, repairs to farm infrastructure, removal of debris or disposal of damaged goods."

"Fodder drops qualify and producers can combine with other producers to make fodder drops more cost effective (as long as they only claim for their individual share of the cost).

"Producers who need fodder and businesses or private individuals who can supply fodder should contact the DEEDI Business Information Centre on 13 25 23.

"The state government will take callers' details and connect producers and suppliers at a local level.

"For small businesses, grants will help meet the costs associated with cleanup, disposing of damaged goods, essential repairs or replacing stock," Mr Mulherin said.

These arrangements apply to the following shires: Diamantina, Paroo, Barcoo, Maranoa Regional, Quilpie, Balonne, Bulloo, Blackall-Tambo Regional, Murweh, and Western Downs Regional.

"In addition to the special flood assistance grants, producers and small businesses can apply for concessional loans of up to $250,000 at 4% and producers can apply for freight subsidies of up to $5,000.

Mr Mulherin said he had been in regular contact with AgForce, Cotton Australia and Mayors in the affected areas.

"I am confident that the locals will recover from the flooding ," he said.

"Farmers in the region have dealt with an ongoing drought and are now cleaning up after the worst flooding in years.

"Working in these conditions is difficult and requires a massive commitment to ensure livestock are safe and businesses can reopen as soon as possible. These grants and loans will assist," Mr Mulherin said.
