Statement from Minister Nolan
Seqwater has advised the Department of Environment and Resource
Management (DERM) that it's two senior flood engineers are no
longer available to act in their roles until further notice.
Seqwater advised on Friday that one of the engineers is unable to
act in the role and further Seqwater have today provided advice
to DERM that the second engineer has advised he is also unable to
act in the role.
The current operation manuals for Wivenhoe, Somerset and North
Pine Dams require Seqwater, during a flood event, to have two
senior flood engineers approved by DERM. Seqwater is in active
discussions with a number of water authorities and other relevant
authorities to fill these roles as quickly as possible. Initial
responses from these organisations have been positive.
Peter Noonan, former CEO of SunWater, a highly respected engineer
and water manager, has agreed to step in as a Senior Flood
Engineer for Seqwater on a temporary basis whilst the current
senior engineers are not available. Seqwater currently has four
flood engineers on roster undertaking 24 hour monitoring of the
dams. Seqwater is actively pursuing options to increase their
capability in Flood Management across the organisation.
