Students from Sumoto visit Noosa Council

Sumoto in town   19/08/2005

Seventeen Japanese visitors made it to Noosa Council on Friday, August 19th - the second delegation in one week and this one from Sumoto, Awaji Island, Japan.

Seven Junior High School students, their Principal, nine Rotarians from Sumoto Rotary Club and two young Rotaract Members met with Noosa Sister Cities & Friendship Links Association members, Mayor Bob Abbot and Sister Cities advocate Cr Ray Kelly.

The Japanese visitors were guests of the Noosa Heads Rotary Club for dinner on Thursday, August 18th and ten of the delegation were home-hosted by the Rotary Club members.

During their visit they hugely enjoyed a ferry trip to the Council Chambers, where they welcomed by the Mayor.  They toured the Good Shepherd Lutheran College and also Sunshine Beach High School, where they joined in class room activities, which included the horrifying prospect of Japanese and English tongue twisters -- and paper folding, origami style.

The visit concluded with much retail therapy undertaken in Hastings Street and golf at Noosa Springs.
