Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Guest House Petition
To: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Petition of Citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the following:
1. People are calling for the right to receive the end of life care they want and deserve in their own community.
2. Queensland Health and Palliative Care Services are experiencing significant challenges in responding to an increased demand by people needing end of life care.
3. Queensland's Planning schemes do not easily allow for the approval and operation of community hospice guest houses.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to support amendments to the Queensland Integrated Planning Act for a new definition of Community Hospice Guest House, which would be Code Assessable within a Rural or Rural Residential precincts of a Local Government Planning scheme. This amendment would mean that Local Governments could easily approve applications for Community Hospice Guest Houses that provided short-term accommodation for no more than three clients with a maximum of three permanent staff. People would then be able to receive the end of life care that they rightly deserve in their own communities.
