Sunshine Coast musician invited to train tomorrow’s greats at prestigious National Music Camp, January 2009
Sunshine Coast cellist, Louise King has been selected from the eminent pool of Australia’s classical music professionals to tutor at Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camp based at Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide SA from 4-18 January 2009. Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) has an international reputation as one of the most prestigious and innovative training organisations in the world and has a unique training pathway to nurture the musical development of Australia's finest young musicians: from the emerging, gifted, school-aged student, to those on the verge of a professional career.
Louise King was personally invited to join the cast of Australia’s finest music professionals by the camp’s Music Director Paul Dean. “Louise has what we need to inspire Australia’s tomorrow’s musical greats – an international training and work experience plus a great performing and teaching reputation. She is engaging and fun and encourages the young musicians to reach for the stars – the AYO trains the best classical talent Australia has to offer.”
National Music Camp is a thriving community of more than 250 of Australia's best young musicians who take part in two weeks of intense but rewarding rehearsals, tutorials and concert performances at Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium. The Camp gives the young musicians the chance to completely immerse themselves in the world of music – to be surrounded by other like-minded individuals, tutored by, and directed by internationally acclaimed conductors such as James Judd, Francois-Xavier Roth & Fionnuala Hunt. Other programs that run simultaneously with the orchestral program include composition with tutor James Ledger, Words about Music with Andrew Dixon, Angela Turner & Gordon Williams and a visionary arts administration program tutored by Damien Low. It is a place where new friendships begin, where old friends are reunited, and where contacts are made with many of Australia’s finest professional musicians.
‘I’m very excited at being one of only two Australian professional ‘cellists chosen to tutor at the camp,” says Louise. “In the last two years I have been a tutor for two other AYO programs such as Young Australian Concert Artists program up in Townsville and the Young Symphonists Program and have been impressed at the wealth of talent and the commitment made to engage with the community by these young musicians and staff.”
Louise understands the challenge facing Australia’s young musicians and claims that her path to becoming a professional musician was all the more inspiring and possible by winning a place in National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain aged fifteen. “it was great to be surrounded by other young people who really excelled at their instrument. I believe that this training and the life-long friendships I forged then still keep me inspired and creating great music even now.”
