Super investments are a walk in the park

10 March 2010 Super investments are a walk in the park

A growing number of self-funded retirees are finding the grass is greener with super fund property investments.

Latest research undertaken by PRD Nationwide Sunshine Coast indicates that with the economy still shaking off the global financial crisis, people are seeking stable means of investing.

Managing Director of PRD Nationwide Sunshine Coast, Mr Syd Walker, said the current volatility of the share market worldwide means people are tending to move away from shares and are returning to the security of bricks and mortar.

"When comparing the performance of property historically against the share market shows that the minor price adjustments in property over the last year represents a flattening rather than a dive experienced in share prices," Mr Walker said.

"Over the period of October 2007 to February 2009 where the share market showed a 50% decline from its' peak point, the property market showed only a 1.5% drop in national dwelling values.

Mr Walker said PRD have seen a noticeable increase of self-managed super fund owners investing in good quality product across the Sunshine Coast.

Recent purchaser at The Parks in Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast, Noel Rogers said buying a piece of the new development, the last stage of Chancellor Village, was the best way to make use of his self managed super fund.

"It's a growing area with real potential which means my superfund will keep growing in value," Mr Rogers said.

"The process of using my self-managed super fund to purchase at The Parks was very simple as well and I can see a tangible result instead of having the money tied up with invisible shares with a company I've never heard of."

Developed by Sunshine Coast's family owned property company, Reed Property Group, The Parks offers architecturally designed two bedroom apartments from $297,500 plus a limited number of unique 'work from home' townhouses. Construction is due to commence in April by multi award-winning local builder, RCQ.

Mr Rogers has been one of the lucky few to secure one of the office townhouses and says the opportunity was a standout. "The concept of the townhouse and office in one was great, and one I hadn't seen before," Mr Rogers said.

"With retirement looming, buying at The Parks seemed like the most logical, steady footed way forward," said Mr Rogers.

With the State Government injecting millions into the Sippy Downs area, including the future town centre, the new Dixon Road Interchange and the new Sunshine Coast University bus interchange, Chancellor Village has quickly emerged as one of the most liveable areas on the Sunshine Coast.

The development is perfectly positioned in the heart of Chancellor Village in Sippy Downs surrounded by schools, child care, public transport, medical facilities, shopping centre and retail outlets, cafes and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
