The Noosa Longweekend festival hailed a success
Wednesday 1, July 2009 The Noosa Longweekend festival hailed a success
Despite tough economic times the 2009 Noosa Longweekend festival has been hailed one of the most successful in the events history, with more than 6800 tickets sold to more than 80 events.
"We've been flooded with positive feedback from members of the public congratulating the festival for bringing such world class acts to Noosa," festival General Manager Ian Mackellar said.
"I'm delighted to report that the festival achieved 100% of its forecasted budget in regards to ticket sales which shows that the arts can still survive in tough financial times," he said.
Not only did the people of the Sunshine Coast come out to support the event, there were interstate culture-lovers from as far as Tasmania who attended.
"We had visitors from Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and various parts of Queensland who travelled to Noosa specifically for the event. The festival has gained an incredible reputation in its short history," he said.
The ten day event kicked-off on Friday (June 19) with a breathtaking performance by award-winning classical guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan.
"The festival closed the way it opened -- with a huge musical bang -- thanks to the exceptional talent of cabaret singer Paul Capsis who blew everyone away with his encore rendition of a Billie Holiday song," Mr Mackellar said.
Also successful, the festival's first bookshop, which was full of punters over the ten days - eager to take home a piece of their favourite author or musician. The store cleared an excess of $15,000 worth of sales.
But there's little time to bask in the glory of such a successful event with General Manager Ian Mackellar admitting work had already begun on the 2010 festival.
"It takes a good 12 months to plan a festival of this calibre and I'm determined to make next year's event even more exhilarating for those who attend. The festival may be over but my work, once again, has only just begun," Mr Mackellar said.
