The weather and your waste

Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards 2012

Sunshine Coast residents may experience some disruption to normal waste rubbish collection over the next few days due to current wet weather conditions.

If the waste or recycling collection service in your area is interrupted or delayed during the current rain event, please leave your bin out the front of your property and it will be emptied within a day or two, or as soon as possible.

If your bin has not been emptied for a few days and you need the waste space, you can take your bin to the nearest waste disposal centre yourself, and empty it there free of charge.

If you find yourself in a severe situation that is dependent upon the bin being emptied, ring the customer service centre at council to make the appropriate arrangements.

Storms and flooding may restrict the processing ability of the recycling plants, however, collection of your bins will continue – but you may see different trucks providing the service for a short time.  Normal services will resume as soon as possible.

Vehicle access to the tips and transfer stations may be severely limited during a major storm or flood event. Residents are advised to contact council before planning a trip to the tip.

Normal tipping rates will apply unless an announcement to the contrary is made by council.

Council may provide additional assistance following large flood events. Additional assistance will not automatically occur and will be dependent on the extent of the damage or hardship caused by the storm.

Listen to local radio for regular updates about conditions and log on to the Bureau of Meteorology website for weather warnings.

Check council’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/SunshineCoastCouncil as it will be updated regularly with information about road closures so please check it before getting into your car.
