'tis the Season to be Jolly... NOT!
Before I whinge too much... We are closing the office here from this afternoon (Friday 19th December) at Noon, and mate, can guarantee you it will be like a scene from High Noon, me glaring at the phone, with the finger trigger poised to hit that night switch button at Midday on the dot! and not opening again until Monday the 5th of January. We will still be working on & off, so if you do need our services, just leave a message on the phone or email us :) Now back to my traditional Christmas rant LOL!
Yeah I know, tis the time to be merry, blah blah... I know it sounds awful, we are all supposed to be sooooo cheered to hear that same tinny Christmas Carol in the shopping centre for the 15th time that week, but, I will be politically 'incorrect' and say, "I cannot stand Christmas"! Don't get me wrong, once Christmas Day actually hits us, sitting with your family, watching kids open presents, happy days, that is enjoyable, BUT, it is only for one day! I am really not sure if all the stress, organisational nightmares, etc. make that one day worth it?
Let's see, put your hand up if you are sick of trying to find a park at the shops? ummm Have you got clients that 'desperately' need that job finished before Christmas? I don't know about you, but for most of ours it is irrelevant, unless you are moving into a house and really need that lounge for Christmas day, who cares??? Another of my favourites, all the Christmas Presents, or lack of them come 1 week out from the big day. Myer, David Jones and the like can flog their Christmas ads for months on the telly, and they do as we know, but really, how many of us are that organised? Come crunch time, we all run around trying to track down that perfect present for every single person and go insane about it.
Yesterday afternoon was a perfect example of Christmas Shopping stupidity, my husband and I trying to fit in a last minute trip to Eumundi Markets (as an aside here, Their Twilight Markets are great! Not as crowded and a lot cooler to be out there at 5pm in the arvo, strongly suggest it!), anyhow, we would have wasted about 20 mins just debating the pros & cons of a particular present for a kid that is not even a year old yet? Hello, the kid will not care? Let's face it, we may as well tie up a non toxic stick with some pretty 'safe' painting on it and let the kid chew away, would be just as happy, but no, we have to go that extra step... Why is this so???
Obviously I am only giving a few examples above, with work stress, Christmas deadlines, and the dreaded 'perfect' gifts, we have not even gotten into the 'organisational' dramas, that make setting up the Apec Conference look like a casual summer barbie... Which parents do you go to for the 'big lunch'?, Who's place will Christmas Day be at?, OMG Did we forget to get the lawns mowed & tidied before the big day?, Is Aunty Jan bringing a 'special friend' you all can't stand, but of course can't tell her not to? New kids in the family, let's hope one is not a 'biter', always fun on Christmas day with hyped up kids!, the list goes on & on, and seriously, give me ten more pages and I reckon I could fill them up with Christmas Dramas LOL!...
Well! I have had my rant, worked this out, sitting on the balcony with my husband and a glass of wine, wasting time whinging, not organising christmas, gee it was brilliant! Made me feel a lot less stressed about 'everything' to be organised & co-ordinated! So my message to you is exactly the same as every Christmas, 'Enjoy yourself', be a tad selfish, make sure that if you are the big organiser, that YOU actually take some time out, float in the pool, sit on the balcony, have a drink or a chat, anything, as long as it is relaxing for YOU!!!
Cheers!
Have a Happy (relaxing) Christmas and a brilliant New Year!
