Update on Matt Golinski, burns victim progress as at 20.1.12

“It’s been nearly a month now since the Boxing Day 2011 fire that claimed the life of Matt’s beautiful wife, Rachael and their three children, Sage, Willow and Starlia Golinski.   

“On behalf of Matt and Rachael’s families we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for the overwhelming level of love and support we have received since the terrible tragedy.  

“Matt remains in a medically induced coma, in a critical, but stable condition. Barring complications, it is expected that he may remain in that state for a few more weeks - which we understand is fairly standard procedure when treating injuries like Matt’s.

“During the past month, Matt has had to endure over 10 surgical procedures as a result of receiving third degree burns to over 40% of his body.

“Whilst his burns are primarily concentrated to the upper parts of his body - including his back, arms and scalp – we are quietly confident that with extensive ongoing medical care and physical therapy that in time, he will regain full use of his body.  

“He is receiving the very best of care from the dedicated staff at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and we are forever grateful for their professionalism and compassion.

“Funeral arrangements for Rachael and the children are progressing, however in consultation with Rachael’s family, final details will be determined when Matt is awake and able to contribute to the decisions involved with bidding his wife and children a final farewell.”
