Whole lot fun for Super kids

16 March 2010 Whole lot fun for Super kids

On Saturday 27 March hundred's of local and interstate kids will be gearing up for a whole lot of fun at this year's Courier-Mail Superkidz Triathlon which forms part of the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival program, held between Friday 26 -- Sunday 28 March 2010.

Every year more kids are taking up the challenge and giving this event a try. They realise it's not about being the best but giving it their best and having a whole lot of fun being active.

The Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival was the first to introduce the Superkidz Triathlon into the three day festival back in 1994 with just 100 children. This year over 500 eager kids aged between 7 -- 13 years will take part.

The Superkidz Triathlon is also a feature of the Noosa and Gold Coast Triathlon Festivals. Across all three events in excess of 11,000 children have participated in the series since 1994.

The Courier-Mail Superkidz triathlons are an important initiative to help reverse the growing number of overweight or obese children in Australia.

Studies have shown that the obesity crisis isn't just a result of poor diet, but also from low levels of physical activity due to increasingly sedentary lifestyles. The Superkidz Triathlons teach kids that exercise can be enjoyable, setting them up for a lifetime of healthy choices.

USM Events are committed to educating and encouraging children to take part in sport; inspire them to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and support them to be a champion no matter what their skill or fitness level.

Acknowledging that children's sport is often an additional financial load on families in the current climate, USM Events will offer half price entry into the Superkidz event for kids aged between 7 -- 13 years who live on the Sunshine Coast.

These events provide children with an opportunity to swim, cycle and run for fun, plus take home a medal for having a go. It doesn't matter how good they are at sport, it gives them the chance to challenge themselves, get healthy and active and boost their self esteem.
