Noosa journalist Frank Wilkie's new comedy Good Grief triggered a huge audience response and three awards at the Sunshine Coast Theatre Festival on the weekend.
Wilkie's unpublished play about an unstable grief counsellor who uses a therapy session to pursue her psycho-sexual agenda was awarded Second Best Play behind Brisbane Arts Theatre's "Heaven on a Stick".
Leona Kirby, who plays manic therapist Evelyn Barge, won Best Actress in a Comedy and Shane Ross won an Adjudicator's award for his portrayal of the grieving husband put through the emotional wringer.
The festival featured 36 mostly published plays from theatre groups across south-east Queensland.
Good Grief will open the Brisbane Arts Theatre's Drama Festival on Wednesday, September 2.
Wilkie's full length play Newsroom enjoyed a sell-out season at Noosa Arts Theatre last year.
