Y-shop at Eumundi market

Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with Eumundi market have developed a scholarship opportunity for young artists. The success of Y-shops in libraries will be continued at Eumundi market where young entrepreneurs will sell their creative wares.

Eleven successful applicants will attend a mentoring session hosted by stall holders, followed by the opportunity to ‘set up shop’ at Eumundi on Saturday 11 February. Sunshine Coast Council invited young artists to set up shop and sell their creative work in libraries over summer.

The invitation resulted in the establishment of 18 Y-shops, run by 27 young entrepreneurs. Participants sold their art work, gained a wealth of experience in customer service and developed their business and marketing skills. Manager Library and Gallery Services, Ross Duncan said it was a great opportunity for creative and entrepreneurial young people on the Coast.

“This innovative partnership with Eumundi Market is a great opportunity for successful Y-shop participants to test their products and newly developed business skills on an even larger audience,” Mr Duncan said. General Manager Eumundi Market Peter Homan, said he was extremely impressed with the quality of merchandise local young people had created.

“Eumundi Markets have long been the place to visit to find original, locally produced arts and crafts and we are always interested in fresh and innovative new products and services,” Mr Homan said. “These young people and their products fit extremely well within the market’s philosophy and will be a valuable addition to our market.”

A large range of original works will be on sale including mosaics, hair accessories, jewellery and fairy twig furniture. Y-shop at Eumundi Markets is on Saturday 11 February from 7am to 2pm. For more information, visit your local Sunshine Coast Library in person or online.
