You’d Be Mental To Miss It!

One of the quintessential Australian bands would have to be Mental as Anything.  Their music is typically delivered with a quirky, ironic sense of humour and when listening to the band’s exploits you’d be forgiven for feeling like you are getting a typical Australian leg pulling. One popular urban myth concerns a group of art student friends who in an endeavour to get free beer passed themselves off as a band to con the local publican into supplying them with their libation.  The deception worked better than intended and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything.

Legend also has it that when the band was building up a live following in Sydney at the Unicorn Hotel, their stage was on top of the pool table to free up floor space. One thing that is certain about Mental As Anything - they are entertaining!  Their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop sets them apart.  With hits like "If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?", "Too Many Times", "Live it Up" and the “Nips are Getting Bigger” they are a typically Australian rock group which is evidenced not only in their lyrics and music but also by their satirical, good-time image.

The group's art school background and visual design skills also made them pioneers of the music video form in Australia in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and their videos rank as some of the funniest and most imaginative produced in Australia at that time. Mental as Anything have received numerous award and accolades including a well-deserved induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2009.  They are still as brilliant ever and are going strong with sell out performances.

Best of all, this iconic Aussie band is coming to the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 1 March at the Diggers Bar of Tewantin-Noosa RSL from 8pm - $25 for members, $30 for non-members.  You’d be mental to miss this performance so make sure you get your tickets early from reception at the Tewantin-Noosa RSL or via dial ‘n’ charge on 5447 1766.
