Cathy Turner, Family First Party Queensland Candidate for Buderim

I am supporting the Family First Party in this state election as I believe it is time for the policies of the government to benefit families, as they are the building blocks of our society.

I am a parent of four grown children, Belinda, Daniel, Christie and Carrie and grandparent to three, Hannah, Jae and Elijah.and I have seen first hand the needs and plights of families.

* The need for affordable housing is paramount for many young families on small wages. In almost every case mothers of babies and small children are forced out to work to provide enough money for housing and living expenses. Many times this causes undue stress, lack of parental time and opportunity to develop relationships.
* Education should be fair and equitable for all children in Queensland and support of the private sector is vital. Family First would like to see more allied health workers, fitness and well-being practitioners working in both state and private schools to benefit our children and promote healthy lifestyles.
* The need for jobs in our area is important especially for our young adults. Two of my children had to move from the area due to lack of work available for them. Jobs need to be created on the coast to give our young people hope and a purpose.
* Our children need to be safe in our local area and the reduction of juvenile crime would put many parents minds at rest.

I also have elderly parents and a family member who is on an invalid pension, so I understand the needs of those on pensions and small incomes.

* Improvement in hospital waiting lists and facilities for country areas are important issues for Family First.
* Help with the issues of everyday life for example the reduction of grocery bills and petrol prices would also aid not only pensioners but many families on restricted budgets.

Our environment is also an important issue that needs careful management.

* The proposals for water management need far more investigation and economic and environmental impacts to be taken into consideration.
* Roads and infrastructure are of paramount importance. Reduction of the tragic waste if life and family heartache due to highway black spots.
* Development of industries and housing should also be carefully monitored to protect our way of life and environment.

As a teacher of 30 years I have seen many issues that affect many families. For example lack of health services, financial crisis, educational inadequacies, law enforcement issues , pornography, abortion, binge drinking and drunk driving, All of these need attention to assist families to live a safe and fulfilled life.

I would like to make a difference for families in Queensland.
