Ian Bell, The Greens candidate for Pumicestone

Ian Bell was born in Brisbane and has lived on Bribie Island since 2003. He is an environmental scientist, engineer and inventor. He has a manufacturing business and appeared on the ABC's New Inventors program.

Ian has worked throughout Australia and overseas in both the private and government sectors. He was National Secretary of the Irrigation Association of Australia (irrigation represents 75% of Australia's water consumption).

Ian is passionate about the beautiful surrounds of the Pumicestone region and Moreton Bay that he is working hard to protect. His wife Chris is the regional CPR trainer and a volunteer at the Golden Age Day Respite Centre.

Ian is retiring President of the Bribie Island Environmental Protection Association. He has also served as a member of the rescue crew for Volunteer Marine Rescue Bribie Island

Ian managed Queensland's $41 million Rural Water Use Efficiency Program for the Queensland government - one of Australia's largest water saving projects. He was the recipient of a BHP Landcare Research Award for work on sustainable agriculture.

Ian is deeply concerned by the threat to the lifestyle and beautiful surroundings of the Pumicestone region, its residents and wildlife from uncontrolled development and exploding population. Population is set to double in 20 years which will place tremendous pressure on all services.

He will be acting to stop the State government practice of fast tracking major projects without proper studies or community consultation.

He will strive to achieve a more caring government and to improve local services so people are confident they will receive proper care and not be forgotten if they are sick, disadvantaged, or needing public transport.

Ian has a can-do attitude coupled with broad experience and ability and is not afraid of tackling any issues on behalf of the community.
