There are many articles and features written about Eumundi as a tourist destination and mostly (and justifiably) the markets are the main focal point.

What is continually missed is that Eumundi has a thriving live theatre, established 11 years ago, which draws its audiences from right across the Sunshine Coast.

It stages between 6 and 10 productions a year and of the 11 live theatres operating, is the most awarded theatre on the Sunshine Coast (the annual STAR Awards).

Formed by former professional actor- director Philip Chappell, former professional metro TV-radio star John Burls and former TV personality-actor-dancer Carol Burls, The Indee, as it's popularly known, rapidly emerged as a major force in live theatre, running as close as possible to professional lines.

Its patron is Carol Burns, noted actor-director, who has worked over recent years mainly with the Queensland Theatre Company.

The theatre's mix includes a large number of Australian works, contemporary plays and a classic season each year and whilst we don't aspire to being a musical theatre, have nonetheless staged four outstandingly successful original works - Hart, Nancy, Nancy II and The Firm.

The Indee has two regularly "pre-sold-out" seasons per year, one at the end of July, "Comedy & Consomme", now in its tenth year and the other at the beginning of December, "Up Eumundi Road and..."

"Comedy & Consomme" consists of three new Australian comedies, coupled with a three-course winter dinner. The format is a choice of soups then comedy No1, casseroles and/or curries then comedy No2, dessert and coffee and comedy No3. A two week season.

"Up Eumundi Road and..." is south-east Queensland's only annual topical revue and has developed a cult following - it always sells out before it opens. This two-hour non-stop laughter-package is accompanied by a two-course buffet-style dinner. A two week season.

While these two shows are permanent fixtures, the theatre's mainstay is top-quality drama and for this it has a huge track record which has brought it a swag of awards on both the Queensland drama festival circuit and at the Coast's STAR Awards. Many original plays have been developed and staged by the group, plays which have later gone on to win many script awards.

This year's program (2005) started with Educating Rita (March), followed by Home (June 10 to 19) directed by the legendary Carol Burns, Comedy & Consomme (July 29-August 7), The Philadelphia Story (October 7-16), Baroque By Candlelight (October 22,23) and concluding with Up Eumundi Road and...

The Indee offers a number of ways to enjoy its productions

Subscriptions per year are $85 which includes tickets for all major shows (minimum 5 a year) plus a bonus show, drink on arrival and souvenir programme. (The Indee is noted for its high quality programmes)
1-2-3 or Threebee tickets at $39 each which entitles the purchaser to attend any 3 productions of their choice.
Becoming an Indee helper to help front of house or backstage or if desired, on technical aspects. Helpers see the show free on the night they are working.

The Indee's home is the Heritage listed School of Arts Theatre in Memorial Drive, Eumundi. In 1998 the Eumundi & District Historical Association, which administers the hall, had the size of the stage doubled, added a workshop, dressing rooms and a mezzanine floor to accommodate the theatre's wardrobe department.

The Indee offers comfortable table seating for all shows allowing patrons to take their drinks or coffee and cake into the auditorium. The Caf Le Mundi Coffee Shop and the licensed Bio-Box Bar operates for all performances.
