HISTORY OF YANDINA FISHING CLUB

In the beginning!!! (that sounds familiar).

It was noticed that there were many keen fishing people in the district, but the problem was each “Fisho” had, maybe one or two mates.  The result being that when one wanted a pal to go fishing, they could be working or off with their families.

What we needed was lots of new “fisho” friends.

In late 1991 to early 1992 discussions were held with keen local fishos regarding forming a local club.  Top anglers like “Captain Jim & Boom Boom”, “Chip & Dale”, “Chicken Jack, Chainsaw”, “No Way Neil”, “Porgy & Beth”, “Rainmakers”, etc, etc.  All parties were for it.

In February 1992 a meeting of interested people was held at the Yandina Bowls Club which resulted in the immediate joining of some original and foundation members and from then till today the club has thrived.

Now that we are established, being fully incorporated in 1992 we enjoy marvelous times both home based and away including annual trips to places like Carlo Point, Bjelke Peterson Dam, Hussey Creek, Noosa North Shore Caravan Park, Borrumba Dam etc, and that is just club competitions, but this club was formed for bigger things, like new friends, camaraderie, a greater list of fishos to call on to make up a party, and that is our success.   Yes our club is made up of people “nice people” and for those of us that made it happen it could be one of the best things we have ever done in or lives, and may it go on and improve for many, many years.

NOTE: There was a much earlier “Yandina Fishing Club” that was based a the Yandina School of Arts – Great local names like “Stumpy Marsh, George Jorgenson and Alfie Dyne made up the core of this club when a trip to the beach probably meant a long walk or horse ride- (we remember you guys).

With the members who organise Raffle Ticket Sales, to help fund events, our intrepid Captain Jim & Boom Boom who arrange and plan all fishing events, Committee Members, and worker in general – It is you who makes it a successful club.

Thanks John Moss
