Australia Day Celebrations 2009

Location: Kings Beach Park, Caloundra
Kings Beach Caloundra will be abuzz with people, entertainers, music and markets on Monday 26 January as the community gathers to celebrate Australia Day.
Running from 10am to 9.30pm, the day of free festivities includes live bands, beach games, food and market stalls, entertainment, roving performers, and even a movie under the stars. Sunshine Coast Council will again host the popular alcohol-free family-friendly event at Kings Beach Park.
The day begins with an Indigenous smoking ceremony (martha martha) performed by Samantha Martin of the Kimberly region of Western Australia.
Live music includes; Lisa Hunt, Mason Rack and The Very Best Bee Gees tribute show. A movie under the stars -- Night at the Museum -- rated PG, will wrap up the day of celebration.
Mayor Bob Abbot will perform with 'Big Bob and the Bluerocrats' and as part of the regional Australia Day celebrations, he will be presenting the inaugural Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards at Noosaville Lions Park, Noosaville from 4.30pm on Sunday 25 January.
People are encouraged to park 'n' ride to take advantage of the free shuttle buses running between the Transit Centre in Cooma Terrace and Kings Beach Park starting at 9.30am. For a full program visit www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au prior to the day
Entertainment includes: Phoenix WILDFIRE -- Fire and Drum Show, The Silly Billies, buskers and street entertainers.
Workshops include: Hula hooping, juggling, Mullawar's Didgeridoo-making and sand-sculpting, just to name a few.
Games include: Thong-throwing, beach cricket, sandcastle building, pie-eating contests and much more.
