Dr Jon Prangnell talk
Caloundra Family History Research Inc will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 19th August at the Guide Hut in Arthur Street, Caloundra at 1.30pm.
On Thursday the 16th September, the Caloundra Family History Research group will present Dr Jon Prangnell, Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at the School of Social Science, University of Queensland, at the group's general meeting. Dr Prangnell, the Director of the university's Archaeological Services Unit, will give a talk about his work on the Excavation of the old North Brisbane Burial Ground, the original Free Settlement cemetery (1843-1875). This is the cemetery that was in the way of the Suncorp Stadium redevelopment. He has been involved in a number of excavations in Queensland, including the search for the first British Settlement in Queensland, at Redcliffe, and the excavation of an 1890's gold mining town on the banks of the Burnett River. His talk will commence at 2.30pm at the Guide Hut in Arthur Street, Caloundra, following the general meeting which always starts at 1.30pm. As well as all members, visitors are welcome to attend this very interesting afternoon presentation by Dr Prangnell.
A Scottish Seminar will be conducted by Ann Swain on Saturday the 16th October at the Guide Hut in Arthur Street, Caloundra. The seminar will encompass Early History of Scotland; Migration to Australia; Convicts to Australia.
