12 November 2009    Free recycling tours this weekend

Council is opening the doors to recycling centres across the Coast on 14 November to show residents how waste is processed and how small actions make a big difference.

The tours form part of council's National Recycling Week program, which started on 7 November with the first of 12 wormfarm workshops.

The three tours cover Noosa, Caloundra and Nambour; include an interactive recycling presentation as well as a bus tour of the local landfill and recycling centre.

Participants will learn how to tell, which plastic products can be recycled, why carrier bags are a no-no, how rinsing recyclables can help our sorting facilities and much more.

Bookings are essential as places are limited. Anyone wishing to book should contact council's customer service centre on 5475 7272.

Caloundra:
Tours start at 9.30am at the Caloundra library. Waste education presenters will give an interactive presentation, showing participants what to recycle and how to recycle well. Buses then depart from the library and take a tour of the Pearce Avenue landfill and the recycling markets. Tours end at 12.15pm at the Caloundra library.

Nambour:
Tours start at 9.30am at the Nambour Resource Recovery Centre, Cooney Rd. Those with bookings should park in the car park and follow signs to the education centre.
Waste education presenters will give an interactive presentation, showing participants what to recycle and how to recycle well. Buses depart from the education centre to take a tour of the landfill and resource recovery area. Tours end at 11.45am at the education centre.

Noosa:
Tours start at 9.30am at the Noosa library. Waste education presenters will give an interactive presentation, showing participants what to recycle and how to recycle well. Buses then depart from the library and take a tour of the Eumundi Road landfill and resource recovery centre and recycling shop. Tours end at 12.15pm at the Noosa library.
