Jack and the Beanstalk
Dates: Saturday 17th January 2009 to Sunday 18th January 2009
Location: Noosa Arts Theatre, Not Assigned
A Traditional English Pantomime
January 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 2pm & 5pm
Adults will love it. Children will love. Pantomime is the epitome of interactive theatre - cheers for the hero, boos for the baddies and lots of "watch out, he's behind you" audience warnings.
You will follow the fortunes of Jack and champion his cause as he fights the giant to bring peace to Merreydale. The scary bits are quickly diffused for children with loads of humour and some very funny characters. There is also a nice smattering of more adult humour to keep the parents amused.
Some of you will remember in the original story of Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack sells Daisy and it's this that gets Jack into trouble. In the end he just has to stop the horrid giant, Blunderbore, and his evil Henchman, Fleshcreep, from oppressing and terrifying the villagers.
Panto leaves you feeling good. The Goodies always win and this production is no different. Straight after the bows at the end of the show, the cast will go into the audience, so children can meet and talk to characters and get photos taken with them.
Creator and director of this panto, Jennifer Rousset, has been heavily involved in directing, choreographing and acting in musicals for 20 years -- 16 years in England and 4 in Australia. She choreographed the BATS productions of Snow White as well as playing the Wicked Queen and played a hilarious scribe in Iolanthe at Noosa Arts.
'I feel passionate about introducing children to live theatre and cannot describe how much pleasure I get when I see the little faces in the audience totally absorbed in the story line and 'in the moment',' says Jennifer.
Jennifer has assembled a terrific cast including Matt Dunstan, who wowed audiences in the recent Showcase with his fantastic puppet on a string act, Jacob Phelan from The Full Monty as Jack, the flamboyant Peter Reynolds as the king and the cute Kerrin Walder as the Fairy Moonbeam. There will also be colourful sets and costumes and even a beautiful Cow called Daisy. Jennifer herself plays Fleshcreep, but will be unrecognisable in that costume.
Performances are on January 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 2pm & 5pm. $10 per seat. Best suited for ages 3 to 10. For bookings phone 5449 9343 or book on line at Noosa Arts Theatre website or go to theatre on Saturday mornings 9 am to noon.
