It was then remade in 1994, starring Sir Richard Attenborough as Kris Kringle and Mara Wilson as Susan. It is, in essence, the story of the trial of Santa Claus, to be real or not to be real.

It portrays the life of Susan and her mother Doris, who have had a life of some sadness. So, Susan has grown up believing that Santa is mythical because Doris thought it best not to ever allow her to believe in things that are not real.

Along comes Kris Kringle, aghast that people no longer believe in him. There is a love story between Fred and Doris, and in the true meaning of Christmas, a wonderful happy ending.
