Council is committed to supporting small business in the region. We have developed a series of events designed to provide advice and information on key topics and trends that affect the local community and regional economy.


June - December 2009: "Tougher Times - Smarter Business" Program

Sunshine Coast Enterprises, an economic development initiative of council brings you this comprehensive series of workshops to assist your small business to be a success. All of the workshops are subsidised by the Australian Government's Small Business Advisory Services Initiative.

1. Say Goodbye to Financial Flabbiness! Presented by Michelle Hamer
Michelle has over 20 years' experience in business and is a sought-after trainer delivering individualised service to clients in Australia and overseas. The Go Figure workshops are designed to build knowledge and gain confidence in:
* reading financial statements
* using financial rations to check the fitness of your business
* developing a cash flow statement for the business and yourself
* practical options for making and saving $'s
The Go Figure workshops will run from 8:30am to 4:30pm on the following dates:

Tuesday August 4, 2009 at the Maroochy Surf Club
The value of this workshop is $500. SCE brings this workshop to you at a subsidised cost of $30 per person or

2. Marketing Matters: Getting the Right Message Out There
If you are a small business, this 1/2 day workshop will help you address challenges you encounter in raising the profile of your business. Key areas covered will help enable you to develop your marketing and communication action plans.

3. Human Resources: Developing and Managing Your Team
This 1/2 day workshop is designed to help you manage your team. As small business this is often made up of family, friends, casual and/or permanent staff as well as contracted support - how do you manage this mix in planning to grow your business?
Workshops run from 8:30am to 12:30pm on the following dates:

4. Strategies: Where to From Here?

This 1/2 day workshop is designed to cover all the key business fundamentals within your small business. It will also provide an opportunity for participants who have attended other workshops within this program to consolidate all the various workshop material and provide a direction forward.

Tuesday 23 June 2009: Innovation -- How it helps your business today!
Presenter: Trevor Holmes
This workshop is for small business owners who know there are areas in which their business can improve but just don't know where to start.
Participants will be shown how doing things differently can help their business be more efficient, productive and profitable.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will work on innovations in their business practices that can reap business benefits immediately.
Workshop presenter Trevor Holmes has an extensive and diverse background in business management. Trevor has used both practical experience and formal business education to educate literally hundreds of small business owners. With a strong belief in structure, systems and measurement as the foundation of business success, businesses of any size will benefit from Trevor's lively and interactive presentation style on how to improve your business results.

June to December 2009: Business Clinics
The business world has changed forever. Small businesses on the Sunshine Coast are increasingly more exposed to the impacts of the current economic climate. In The Business Clinics program is here to support small businesses on the Sunshine Coast to maintain and strengthen their business 'health'.
The Business Clinics offers a checklist service followed by a one hour free session where a 'prescription' may be given by a legal or financial professional.
This free service is offered to discuss issues surrounding your business capability specifically on:
* Finance
* Banking structures
* Accounting or legal issues
June to December 2009, Dates & Venues:
Every 3rd Thursday of the month, starting 18th June Caloundra Chamber of Commerce.
Every 4th Thursday of the month, starting 25th June Hinterland Business Centre, Maleny.
