Surviving Your Adolescents
Lifeline Community Care Sunshine Coast is once again hosting the
popular four session course called Surviving Your Adolescents. The
course, which has attracted a large number of dedicated parents with
12+ year olds, has been running on the Sunshine Coast since early 2009
and has been gaining momentum since its inception.
Surviving Your Adolescents will host its first round of parents for
2010 during February and March. Parents will have to opportunity to
discuss with trained Family Counsellors how to deal with modern and
traditional issues affecting their children.
Understanding your adolescents, understanding your job as a parent,
figuring out what is worth reacting to and what is not, and learning
how to hold difficult conversations more successfully are some of the
more traditional issues that the course addresses. New to this course
are the topics of internet use, cyber-bulling and mobile phones -- and
this is where the police come into the equation.
A new feature of the upcoming course is the addition of Senior
Constable Mark Readman, Crime Prevention Coordinator of the Sunshine
Coast in the final class, who will be presenting DVDs on and talking
about internet safety, cyber bullying, sexting, ID fraud and other
concerns that could affect our children.
The course starts on 23rd February and runs for four weeks each Tuesday
(23/02/10, 02/03/10, 09/03/10, and 16/03/10) from 5:15-7:30 p.m.. The
final course with Constable Readman is on the 16th March. Parents are
expected to attend each course and a gold coin is required for each
class to help support the light supper provided. Lifeline asks that you
arrange your own childcare.
