Tamba workshop

Dates: Saturday 27th March 2010 to Sunday 28th March 2010
Location: The Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy

Let Cooroy ceramics light your fire

The Butter Factory Arts Centre in Cooroy is focused on ceramics for the next month, with its latest exhibition opening on Friday 26 March at 6pm.

Hosted by influential ceramic artist Barry Tate, the exhibition will include collections from the Tamba Connection and All Fired Up.

Explore the massive community effort behind the unique Anagama kiln, which was built in Cooroy in 1997 by Japanese master potter Ichino San, and has since been destroyed.

See the distinctive ceramic pieces fired in this kiln including original pieces by Ichino San as well as more recent wood firings from artists Rowley Drysdale and Mark O'Neill.

Mr Tate will also present a workshop teaching the traditional Tamba coil and throw technique at the Butter Factory at 10am on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 March.

All Fired Up is an exhibition of recent works created by artists using the Butter Factory's ceramics workshop.

Check out the almost life-sized hot pink mermaid swinging from the rafters, or a porcelain baby sleeping on hundreds of ceramic eggshells, while curious sculptural forms and pots of all shapes and sizes fill the entire gallery.

Both exhibitions are showing until 24 April. Contact the Butter Factory Arts Centre on 5472 0222 for more information.
