Translink Seniors free Go Card information session
TRANSLINK SENIORS INFORMATION SESSION
Translink will be holding a free Go Card information session for seniors
at the Scout Hall, 14 Beach Road in Maroochydore on Wednesday 7 April
at 11.30am.
LNP Shadow Transport Minister Fiona Simpson has asked TransLink for this
session to inform people of the correct way to use a Go Card and to
respond to the concerns and issues raised by Seniors and disability
groups.
"I urge people to bring their Seniors cards with them as there will be
some free Go Cards for those who have this card with them," Ms Simpson
said.
" A number of elderly and disabled people have contacted me about the
difficulties they have experienced in using the Go Card and this is a
good opportunity for them to get a better understanding of how to use
the new system .
"Many people have problems touching on and off correctly and don't know
what to do if they are charged incorrectly.
"The 40% increase in the cost of paper tickets has forced public
transport users to take up the new Go Card system, but many Seniors are
finding that the Go Card fare often isn't any cheaper, due to the
penalty fares which are imposed when they forget to touch off.
"I have been critical of the fare structures the government has imposed
in their new public transport system but I am keen to ensure that in
regard to using this new technology people have access to more
assistance so they aren't unfairly charged extra for problems using the
Go Card."
Ms Simpson said she hopes this session will help seniors understand how
to top up their Go Card balance, how to touch on and off correctly, and
how to transfer between transport services without incurring penalties.
The session will last for around forty minutes - including time for
questions.
"The good news is they advise me they will be providing free Go Cards
with a $10 travel balance to anyone showing their Seniors Card on the
day," said Ms Simpson.
" However, to receive this, you must remember to bring your Seniors card
with you."
