If you really belong in more than one category, you are better off with the Triple Bonus (3 categories for price of 2). Reflections on International Womens Day...
Last week was International Women's Day and as a mum (i.e. woman LOL!) and the mother of a girl, it did get me thinking... Basically there was not a hell of lot happening to celebrate Woman's Day, which was a shame as it would have been a good opportunity to advance the cause of women. Don't get me wrong, I am not a raging feminist, BUT, I would like to think that my daughter will have the same opportunities and advantages that her male counterparts have.
Sadly this does not look to be the case... Roles models for girls & women are not exactly plentiful out there in the media. The Australian Netball team had a boomer with the Captain playing her 100th game, yet is was lucky to make a small article on the 6th last page of the local paper, Female sports teams can't get sponsorship, Companies themsleves don't seem to want to invest any sponsorship money in women's events or contests, and representation in Local Government is pretty sad :(
Please guys, have a bit of a think about it, watch the sport in the local news for a week and count the amount of times you see females doing well (and a lot of them are you know), BUT the media seem to think that men are not interested so don't show it. If you are a husband who respects his wife, a father who has aspirations for his daughter, or just the average bloke who enjoys working with your fellow female workmates, get on to the local media & tell them you want to see an "equal" amount of both female & male articles, they might just listen to you, and then you would bes a deadset legend! :)
