Off & Racing...
I don't know about anyone else but ever since we had the close of Nominations for our new Council, it has been a conflicting time for me. On one hand, I see the info coming in from Candidates and think it will be nice to see fresh faces, obviously as a larger council hopefully we will get more funding for facilities etc., then on the other hand I put up info from Council Staff and think, gee I won't need that file in a few months, and I wonder what will happen to you? Do you have a job in the new council? Will the new Council take on these initiatives?
You have the likes of the Program that Caloundra Council runs in the School Holidays, it is brilliant, great stuff for the kids to do, Noosa runs a similar one, and then you have the wonderful people at Creative Noosa & Community Development, coming up with wonderful community initiatives for youth, seniors, and the likes of me. Will the new council get so caught up in the 'big' issues that they forget about these really important sorts of community programmes that make us the civic minded community that we? I for one hope not!
No offence to the Gold Coast, great to visit, though now we will be a 'big' council, and we don't want to lose our community lifestyle, don't forget the smaller issues, cultural, artistic, small business, small sporting organisations etc., who make us who we are? Looking after our future is not just about the Big Ticket items...
Does everyone even know what Division they are in now? A quick check on the
Electoral Commission of Queensland site will let you know. With our candidates, well, I the think it was easier getting information off our Federal Politicians then it has been off our Local ones? Hopefully more will get back to me with their info over the next few days so you can all get a feel for who you are voting for, at the moment we have them listed at least on the following Link: '
2008 Sunshine Coast Regional Council Elections Candidates', check on that page regularly, info being added all the time.
Cheers,
Noely, Community Site Coordinator
