It's all about me...
Last week I turned 40 and decided that to mark this 'big one' a bit differently. All I wanted for my birthday was for it to be 'all about me'! Seriously, no considering the kids, work, family... If you are a really busy person who spends all their time & money like me, and think 5 mins to yourself is a luxury, read on...
I was just like a teenager, you know, the world revolves around them. I had always wanted to see a Rugby League game at Olympic Park in Melbourne, and besides the flights, hotel & the footy, absolutely nothing else was organised. Yep, was pretty scary, no plans, just go with the flow, and we had a ball. Standing outside the footy we saw Shane Webke, talk about a nice bloke! One of my friends (yes there were 8 of us on my selfish little jaunt), wondered if it would be ok to go over & have a chat with him. We of course very maturely dared her to, as you do, and how nice was he, not only had a chat but posed for a photo with them as well. Those of us who thought we were too cool felt pretty ripped off we missed out, serve us right LOL!
Even though we got flogged by the storm, we still had a wonderful weekend, shopping, dining, even the ultimate of just sitting around in a bar chatting, laughing, having a few drinks and basically doing 'nothing', us being used to enclosed shoes being an optional extra here on the coast had a few issues with blisters, but hey, can't have it all. Except for the serious 5 min discussion in regard to dates, and the few mins online flashing the fantastic plastic, that was it! You don't have to have an organisational nervous breakdown to organise or celebrate a special event? In fact, going with the flow and just doing as you wish is extremely liberating, and if everyone else gets into the swing of it (as they will), it is very Special!
When you work really long hours, have lots of responsibilities, the list goes on, being 'selfish' is really under-rated! If you are in a similar position, I thoroughly recommend it, a few days of being selfish is worth more than 2 weeks of any overseas holiday! :)
