RSPCA Noosa De-sexing drive

Expires: 10th September 2010

"Weapons of Mass Production!"

De-sexing drive will save lives.

The homeless pet crisis is getting worse and the infuriating part about the situation is that it's largely preventable. If people would simply de-sex their pets, cats in particular, then thousands of lives could be saved.

"Every year RSPCA Qld is being forced to euthanase over 12,000 cats and kittens because there simply aren't enough homes for the vast numbers being born," said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty. "This is totally unacceptable and it could be largely alleviated if people would act responsibly and de-sex their cats."

With this in mind, RSPCA Qld in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, is offering heavily discounted cat de-sexing from Thursday July 22nd to Friday September 10th for all holders of concession cards. The cost is $49.00 or $59.00 with a microchip.

RSPCA Qld's PAWS (Portable Animal Welfare Service) unit will be at the Noosa Shelter handling what is hoped will be a constant stream of animals arriving to be de-sexed.

De-sexed cats are usually:
More affectionate
Less likely to stray
Less likely to spray
Less likely to be territorial
Less likely to catch life-threatening diseases

"We'll be holding a special barbeque to open the de-sexing drive and everyone is welcome to drop in and see what we're doing and hopefully offer their support. Lets join together to stop these weapons of mass production," said RSPCA Qld's Noosa Shelter Manager Nicole Cleary.
